What is blog? Why is it so popular? What is blog history?

From Wiki Dictionary: Blog, shortened from “web + log”, is a personal or corporate website in the form of an online journal, with new entries appearing in sequence as they are written, especially as dealing with reflections or opinion, and typically incorporating links to other articles.

Blog History

In December 1997, Jorn Barger (a programmer) began to document daily all of the links he found useful on the Internet. Since this document was placed online, he named it “WebLog”. This term soon got abbreviated to “Blog”.

In August 1999, Pyra Labs company launched Blogger.com offering Internet users the ability to signup for an account and blog for free.

In February 2003, Google acquired Pyra Labs. At the time, Google was very popular and anything Google touched turned into Gold. The acquisition brought big attention and fused the blog explosion.
